For this reason, the domains that are not on the blacklist cannot be considered 100% safe. It just means that we did not flag them as toxic, but you should still review them to make sure that they are of good quality.
Unfortunately, the Backlink Blacklist cannot substitute a full backlink audit.

In general, yes. But, a site with too many bad backlinks from spammy websites, paid links, or link schemes can be hurt by a manual action or algorithm penalty.
Therefore, you want to stay away from those backlinking practices to keep your site safe from negative actions.
What our Blacklist is showing you is a review of whether the links you entered are on our "DO-NOT-USE" list.
As you're reviewing your SEO game, these are five of the most significant types of backlinks to avoid.
- Links From Spammy Sites - for example links from sites that are on our blacklist!
- Links From Link-Mill (or link farm) Websites - these websites are built with the only purpose to sell links.
- Cheap PR Release Links - unless you are doing a proper PR, most of the cheap PR links are just syndicated garbage.
- Links From Sites Completely Unrelated to Your Industry - imagine having a site in fishing niche and getting a link from a website about hamsters.
- Discussion Forum and Blog Comment Links - these, although still popular, usually have absolutely no, or negative, effect for your SEO. In case this is going to be your strategy, we fiercely advise againt it 😉
In short: low quality links.
Low-quality links are links from low-quality web directories, low-quality article directories, low-quality guest posts, or spam comments.
Whatever comes back from the above tool as blacklisted , you can consider as low quality.
Toxic backlinks commonly display signs of low quality or an attempt to manipulate rankings such as:
- Coming from sites that have been set up only for the purpose of linking out.
- Coming from sites and content which aren't topically relevant.
- Coming from sites that aren't indexed by Google.
- Coming from sites that are included in our blacklist tool above
Today, websites with suspicious and unnatural backlinks get penalized and are often dragged to the bottom of search engine results. Which means that when you are affected, you need to remove bad backlinks that could negatively affect your site authority and search rankings.
In most cases, preemptive measures (such as disavowing links) are not required, but what's most important, you should not acquire links that are on our blacklist as these are likely toxic.
Some links come from low-authority websites or spammy pages that are more focused on quantity instead of quality. These links are called toxic backlinks. They can hurt your search ranking over time and maybe even earn you stiff penalties from search engines.
For this reason, we created the above Backlink Blacklist tool which is meant to allow you to check if your backlinks (especially those you acquire through link building agencies) are toxic.
